Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data SolarScope (solarscope.io), run by Lissjos Engineering LLC in Encinitas, California, collects, why, who receives it, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it. It covers the website and the ways you can use SolarScope from AI apps such as ChatGPT and Claude.
What we collect
- Account data: your email address, name if you give it, plan and billing status. Sign-in is handled by our login provider (Stack Auth); we do not see or store your password, except a scrambled (hashed) password for a small number of older accounts.
- Billing data: handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
- Your projects: the sites you analyse (locations, place names), the data we load for them (solar resource, transmission lines, flood zones, land and grid checks), your notes, your questions to the AI assistant and its answers, and reports and report settings, including any logo you upload.
- AI app connections and API keys: when you connect an AI app (for example ChatGPT or Claude) with "Sign in with SolarScope", we store which app it is, when you connected and when it was last used. API keys are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form. For each billable request from an AI app or API key we record the tool used, the time and the units counted toward your monthly allowance. We receive only what the AI app sends to SolarScope's tools (for example coordinates, site names and notes); we never receive your other conversations in that app.
- Usage and device data: pages visited and features used (Google Analytics, using cookies), and technical data in our server logs such as IP address, browser type and time of request.
- Messages to us: support requests, feedback and data-problem reports, with your email address.
How we use it
- To provide SolarScope: run site screenings, save your projects, create reports, and let the AI apps you connect act on your account.
- To keep accounts secure, count usage against plan allowances, prevent abuse and fix problems.
- To bill you for your plan.
- To send service emails (for example account and billing messages) and, if you have not opted out, occasional product updates.
- To improve SolarScope using aggregated usage data.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who receives it
We share personal data only with service providers that help us run SolarScope, and only as needed:
- Hosting and delivery: Hetzner (servers in Germany), Cloudflare (network and security).
- Sign-in: Stack Auth. Payments: Stripe. Email: Resend.
- AI analysis: Anthropic and OpenAI process the site data and questions you send to SolarScope's built-in AI assistant to produce its answers.
- Maps: Mapbox (map tiles and report maps). Feedback: FeatureBase. Analytics: Google Analytics.
- Public data sources (NREL, the European Commission's PVGIS, NASA POWER, HIFLD and Esri ArcGIS, FEMA, the U.S. Census Bureau) receive only the coordinates being analysed, never your name or email. Some map layers load directly from these services and from Mapbox in your browser, so those services also see your browser's IP address.
- AI apps you connect: when you use SolarScope from ChatGPT, Claude or another AI app, that app receives the results of the requests you make. How it handles them is governed by that app's own privacy policy.
- Public Solar Profiles: anonymised city-level data as described below, which you can turn off.
- Legal reasons: authorities or advisers when the law requires it, or to protect our users and service.
Public Solar Profiles
When you analyse sites in Site Studio, anonymised data may be added to our public Solar Profiles: city-level location, system size category, solar data and general application type. We never publish your name, email, exact address or project names. You can turn this off at any time in Settings.
How long we keep it
- Account data and projects: while your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete it within 30 days; copies in our server backups are overwritten within a further 7 days.
- AI app connections: each sign-in token expires after 1 hour and is renewed automatically while you use the app; a connection that is not used for 30 days expires. Disconnecting an app stops it immediately.
- Usage records for AI apps and API keys: while your account exists, to show and enforce monthly allowances and to answer billing questions.
- PDF reports created through an AI app or API: deleted after 7 days.
- Screening cache: results are cached by coordinates for 30 days to answer repeat requests faster; the cache contains no personal data.
- Server logs: up to 90 days.
- Billing records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Your choices and rights
- See, correct or download your data, or ask us to delete your account, by emailing [email protected].
- Disconnect AI apps and revoke API keys at any time under Account > API & AI agents.
- Turn off Public Solar Profiles in Settings, and opt out of product emails by replying to any of them or emailing us.
- Depending on where you live (for example California or the EU/UK), you may have further rights, such as to object to or restrict processing. Contact us and we will help.
Security
We protect your data with encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed API keys and sign-in tokens, access limited to what each part of the service needs, and regular updates to our servers.
Children
SolarScope is a professional tool and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you by email or in the app.
